Catalyst Labs, llc

August 2017 – Present

CEO | Consultant | Developer

Catalyst Labs is a streamlined digital agency that focuses on helping businesses re-brand, redesign, and rebuild their digital properties in order to modernize and bring them into the 21st century. By utilizing industry proven tools and technology Catalyst Labs can literally future-proof your website or application so it grows with your business, not against it.

After 7 years of freelancing; servicing various clients and accumulating a wealth of knowledge along the way, I made the decision in 2017 to incorporate and turn my freelancing into a legitimate business. Since then I have continued to exceed my clients expectations and deliver top-notch technology at every opportunity.

Focusing primarily on WordPress and ServiceNow development, Catalyst Labs maintains one foot in the web world while keeping the other firmly planted in the world of SAAS (software as a service). In 2021 Catalyst Labs partnered with C1Secure and Mobiz IT to facilitate in delivering quality applications and implementations to their clients and customers.

December 2021

Featured Project

The third iteration of my portfolio site is the biggest update to date. The idea behind it is simple; take the best parts of my top 3 social media sites and remove all the clutter and junk. Thus, Callisonification has become my own personal social network. Allowing me to share the things I want to share with the widest audience possible….everyone.

With the increased presence of internet regulations, censorship, shadow-banning, and misinformation Big Tech social media companies can no longer be trusted with your information or data. The solution? Create your own social network. Tailor it to your audience and choose when, how, and what you share.

Callisonification acts as my Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Users can connect with me by posting comments, sending messages, scheduling meetings, viewing my work history, and you can even look at cute cat photos. Check back regularly for updates on my career and life.

Accenture Federal Services

December 2019 – May 2021

ServiceNow Developer

As a ServiceNow Developer for AFS I was responsible for assisting in the design and development of custom scoped-applications for the U.S. Dept. of State’s OMB offices. The scope of these projects included custom tables, fields, functionality, and a custom Service Portal.

This was my first opportunity to work on a scoped-application from start to finish and really see the entire SDLC as it unfolded in front of me. My team was top-notch and the skills I learned from this position were invaluable in my career still to this day.

Once the project was launched and successfully installed my contract was phased-out and I rolled off the contract in May of 2021.

January 2019

Featured Project

Melisa McGuire Real Estate was a fresh site design I did for a colleague of mine. Her real estate business desperately needed a web presence and a place for her to showcase the properties she represented. The end result is a clean, mobile-friendly, inviting website that showcases the business and its assets.

The site was built using WordPress and various plugins to provide the additional functionality. The site was built using the Genesis theme and the AgentPress child theme. A customized Admin section was included to allow the site owners to update the site as they need in the future.

The project was designed, developed, and launched in just 3 short months and the client was very pleased with the end result. The site garners hundreds of visitors a day and allows MMRE to connect to more potential buyers.

Integrated Solutions Management

April 2017 – October 2019

Technical Consultant

As a Technical Consultant for ISM I was responsible for consulting, developing, and architecting deployments of the ServiceNow platform. Including implementation of ITSM applications and modules, Service Portal, & Mobile Applications.

ISM allowed me the opportunity to work on various projects in various customer instances. Some being off-prem, most being domain separated, and all requiring their own set of customizations and configurations to meet the client’s needs.

The scope of my responsibilities included everything from setting up out-of-box applications, creating custom Service Portals, developing mobile applications, and coding custom scripts. The knowledge and experiences I gained working at ISM were invaluable and still help me to this day.

ServiceNow

July 2015 – November 2016

Technical Support Engineer

As a Tech Support Engineer at ServiceNow I was introduced to the NOW platform and all of its capabilities. Having never touched it before, but having a strong background in JavaScript, I quickly picked up the platform and was resolving customer issues in no time.

Being a TSE allowed me to work on a variety of customer instances, troubleshooting various bugs and issues, and providing the most efficient solution to their problem in the quickest possible timeframe.

I was certified as a System Administrator after my initial 6 months and continued working at NOW for over a year. This position allowed me to understand the inner-workings of the platform and how to diagnose issues quickly. It also provided me the opportunity to see first-hand how system issues were handled and resolved within the organization.

After 18-months on the NOW team I took the experience and knowledge I gained and moved onto my next career milestone, becoming a Technical Consultant for the NOW platform.

AParent Design

AParent Design

November 2015

Featured Project

The AParent website was a redesign I did for a friend of mine that needed an updated portfolio site created to showcase her talents and career. The design boasts a dark, minimal design that adorns itself with black and white imagery throughout.

Hovering over the showcase image reveals the image in its full color and allows the user to view more works by clicking any example. A brief section at the bottom includes the artists info and experience as well as links to social media, email, and her resume.

The front-end was built using Bootstrap 3 and various assets provided by the artist. Overall the site was a successful redesign and the artist was very happy with the end result.

ERA Europe

ERA Europe

October 2014 – June 2015

Lead Developer

At ERA Europe my mission was to work closely with the CTO to redesign and redevelop the customer facing websites as well as landing pages for realtors and offices. The redesign was a massive overhaul that required months of planning and wire-framing before we could even begin to code.

Previous websites built on Coldfusion needed to be redesigned to use PHP5 instead. This was accomplished by again utilizing the Codeigniter and Bootstrap frameworks. The site also incorporated enhanced search engine capability thanks to the inclusion of Solr and MySQL.

Unfortunately, due to poor management and a lack of vision the project was scrapped and my role along with it. However, the time spent with ERA Europe provided valuable career experiences that helped propel me forward to my next engagement.

The FCCG website redesign was the first contract I bid on and landed as a freelance web developer. The FCCG needed a website that was built on modern web technologies, provided their users will a wealth of knowledge and information, and allowed users to interact with the agency via the website.

The website utilizes the Bootstrap 3 framework for the front-end and a custom built Content Management System powers the back-end, which was built using Codeigniter. The site works very much like a WordPress installation, allowing the site administrators to update the site content as needed and add new content in the future.

Overall, the project was a labor of love for me and was built to exceed the expectation communicated by the customer. The site is still running strong today and supports the FCCG’s mission and its hundreds of daily visitors.

Callisonification

Callisonification

August 2014

Featured Project

Wow, my first portfolio site – this was something special (to me, haha). I originally set out creating this site to showcase my career and talents to prospective employers. I wanted this website to really demonstrate what I could accomplish so I built almost all the assets by hand, including the picture collages.

The front-end was built on the Bootstrap 3 framework, there was no back-end involved other than a small PHP script to handle form submissions. Images were stitched together using Photoshop and various sizes were rendered to support the built-in responsive design. A link to my resume and social media sites were included on the contact page for those interested in taking a look.

Each page boats its own vibrant color scheme, with the dark blue acting as the “anchor” color across all pages. This adds a layer of consistency across the pages and makes them feel similar while also being very different at the same time.

To say the site is “busy” was an understatement at the time, but the focus of the site was to really WOW those potential employers. I also wanted it to stand out from the crowd and show a little bit of my personality in the process.

AssistRX

AssistRX

June 2014 – October 2014

Software Developer

My first development job after college was working for a specialized software company called AssistRX. As a Software Developer for AssistRX I assisted my team in creating JavaScript-driven mobile application to assist physicians with prescribing their patient’s therapies quickly and efficiently.

The applications were built on a homemade framework that used an XML object for its configuration. This allowed our team to create “barebones skeletons” of applications and then configure them as needed by the client. This allowed for each application to have its own branding, user experience, requirements, and assets without having to create a new app each time.

Applications were built using the Bootstrap framework for the front-end and Codeigniter as the back-end framework. Applications also heavily relied on JavaScript, both native and libraries like JQuery, as well tons of XML which acted as the configuration data for each application.

Xulon Press

Xulon Press

October 2013 – December 2013

Front-End Developer

My first contract after college was working for a small self-publishing company, Xulon Press. As a front-end developer for Xulon Press I lead the redesign of their “Author Center” online publisher web application. The application was built using Bootstrap for the front-end and Laravel for the back-end.

I worked in tandem with the back-end development team to create a user-friendly UI that also worked with the data being provided from the database. The result was a mobile-friendly, data-driven, self-publishing application that would propel Xulon’s authors into the forefront of online publishing.

Unfortunately, due to poor planning and oversight by the management team this product was never completed. My contract was dissolved not long afterwards. Nonetheless, this position provided a great starting point for my career and a chance to get my feet wet while also maintaining my lab specialist position at Full Sail.

Featured Project

The Clinical Security website was a project I was commissioned to design for a business colleague of mine. Prior to this the business had almost no web presence, so they desperately needed a website that would attract new business and explain the organization.

The site boasts a minimal design that explains the business and its mission clearly from the landing page. The top-level navigation steps users through the website as they require more information. The contact page allows users to interact with the business by providing a simple contact form and Google map widget for geographical location.

The site is small and lite; built using only Bootstrap and modern HTML & CSS. No back-end system was required however a small PHP script was built to handle the contact form submission and error handling. The site is flexible, scalable, and easy to use.

Full Sail University

Full Sail University

May 2013 – June 2014

Lab Specialist

My first job out of college was working as a Lab Specialist for Full Sail University. As a Lab Specialist, I assisted students going through the WDD program (Web Design & Development) to further their understanding of the course materials and lab exercises.

The courses I assisted with focused on back-end server-side technologies and languages such as PHP, MySQL, MongoDB, & Python. While students learned how to construct their own homemade frameworks, we also frequently utilized back-end frameworks such as Codeigniter, Ruby on Rails, Magento, Craft, & Django.

This position allowed me time to better develop my skills and even learn some new ones along the way. I got to give back a bit by helping the students that came after me better understand their career path and made some great connections along the way.
